Wild About Salmon Weekends
Featuring salmon themed activities for kids - October 8-9 & October 22-23
Free with admission to Aquarium of the Bay
Our ecosystem stewards will lead children of all ages in activities such as:
Watershed Model: Interpreting a large model of the San Francisco Bay and its watershed. Participants can spray water on the model and observe how water flows and cycles around in our local watershed, learning about local ecology and the water cycle.
Macroinvertebrate Sampling: A variety of aquatic macroinvertebrates in magnifying viewers for participants to observe, with guides to identify the organisms and talk about macroinvertebrates’ important role as food for salmonids and as an indicator of ecosystem health.
Face Painting: Painting kids’ (and adults’) faces with pictures of salmon and other river-themed graphics
Fred the Fish: A hands-on game that teaches the dangers of different forms of pollution to our rivers and fish.
Egg Guessing game: A big jar full of salmon eggs, and kids can fill out a small sheet of paper that has their name and contact info with their guess of how many eggs are In the jar. The closest guess each day will win a stuffed animal salmon.
Fish Origami: Origami paper and directions to make a few kinds of origami fish.
